HELPING AGAINST HIV

People come together to fight discrimination

25 years ago, Tha Wang Tan had many people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A).  There was a lot of fear and stigma against people with HIV/AIDS due to lack of knowledge and understanding. SPeople felt rejected by the community and society and deeply despaired.  

Khun Tew was a housewife in Tha Wang Tan.  When words started to leak out that she had HIV, some people avoided her and would say hurtful things. At a certain point, she thought the only way out was to take her own life.

Through the actions of a handful of community members the fight against stigma and discrimination began, turning the community around. Khun Tew and her family began to support the community and vice versa! Tha Wang Tan set an example for HIV/AIDS response to the whole world.

‘The Match of our Lives’ is the  second episode in the As You Open Your Eyes series about community change. The scenery in the film is stunning, but profoundly deceptive: there are lives of poverty and desperation.
Life is not easy for the people in Poste Lafayette. Alcoholism, drug abuse and violence are omnipresent.
This film explores a path away from these dangers.
Guylène, is able to bring together a group of young boys, a trainer and a ball. “If you walk on a path with a friend, you must walk hand in hand as a team”.
